This year, the virtual edition of ›Bersong Europinoy‹ with the theme »Pagkakaisa, Pag-asa« (Togetherness/Unity and Hope) took place on May 27th. Organized by the EU Delegation, the poetry festival is part of the Viva Europa cultural program, in commemoration of Europe Day.
›Bersong Europinoy‹ created an online platform for European and Filipino poets and literature enthusiasts to better understand and appreciate each other’s culture and strengthen interpersonal relations between and among Europeans and Filipinos.
The poetry recital, which received much media attention, gathered diplomats, literature lovers, and cultural institutes to promote Europe as a center of excellence in arts and culture especially in literature and generate appreciation and deeper understanding of European culture. The program showed a different perspective of cultural exchange between the EU and the Philippines, where both poets and literary readers presented European and Filipino literary works. The poems recited expressed themes of unity and hope in support of Ukraine.
The Austrian Embassy of Manila participated in a poetry reading with a poem »An Mauern hin« by the Austrian poet Georg Trakl, recited by one of the Embassy staff.
